I’ve heard from friends to use water and a couple drops of bleach, shake and let sit for about an hour and then rinse well. If you’re afraid of bleach like me, I have used bottle bright tablets.

To be fair, the opaque white bottle is made of polyethylene. Not to say there aren’t any aromatic plasticizers in these plastics.

I had the same problem even after washing over and over. A long soak with hot baking soda water and lots of shakes along the way did the trick for me.
