How does the one-time credit after two bills work? is it a credit to your credit card? It doesn't seem like it lowers the monthly payment the way tmobile displays it on the final page before buying.

If you meet the terms you get the rest as a remaining credit, it's not actually part of the trade-in credit, but trade-in is required for the promotion. This is how tmobile always does it.
