You do realize that at 1000ft the beam width is around 3 ft in diameter. There are plenty of situations where the R3 will alert even if you're not the one being painted with laser.

That's the dfr9, the r3 is newer and a better detector. The models are a bit confusing, one step up from the r3 is the r7 which is the newest/best uniden detector.
