Circular or miter saw would be your best bets. Circular is fairly versatile and cheaper than a miter.

Yep, the rear handle is a helical gear drive. Just as good if not better than a wormdrive. It's basically right in between a wormdrive and a sidewinder.

I bought this same combination and price from Makita two years ago. The saw is really well weighted and with two batteries it lasts all day. The brake kicks in after cuts to extend battery life....

A 4x4 is actually 3-1/2 x 3-1/2. So you would still need to turn and cut again based on it doing 2-5/8 cuts.

It will do 2 5/8" cuts, so it would cut through it in one pass you would have to turn it and cut again
