I’ve been using these drives for several years and I do mega heavy video writes to them and I’ve never had an issue with them. So it’s possible to get a bad one. But doesn’t mean it’s by design.

I have probably 1,000 hours of using a BX 1gb so far as my C drive in windows, it has been flawless. If it is only $4 more to get the MX sure why not. But I think you had some bad luck with yours.

It's going to vary widely on the drive itself. Sata 3 only goes up to 600mb/s while m.2 can be 5 times faster on pcie 3.0 and almost 10x faster on pcie 4.0

Likely not until hexa or hepta level cell ssds are a thing. I for one would not want one of those, especially if they are nvme. I can only imagine how low of an endurance those would have.
