The performance, endurance, and warranty are all very similar between the 2 drives. I would base the purchase on whether you'd prefer a m.2 drive. I have purchased both of these drives.

I’ve been using these drives for several years and I do mega heavy video writes to them and I’ve never had an issue with them. So it’s possible to get a bad one. But doesn’t mean it’s by design.

Yup, I paid $600 for a 960GB M500 in 2013, and I was happy about it. Still works today, although it has a massive number of hours and not much wear space left.

Newegg was never "tax free" for anyone. They just didn't collect the tax from some people, from some states, but you were still supposed to pay the taxes, for all of the things you and your family...

I have probably 1,000 hours of using a BX 1gb so far as my C drive in windows, it has been flawless. If it is only $4 more to get the MX sure why not. But I think you had some bad luck with yours.

It's going to vary widely on the drive itself. Sata 3 only goes up to 600mb/s while m.2 can be 5 times faster on pcie 3.0 and almost 10x faster on pcie 4.0

Likely not until hexa or hepta level cell ssds are a thing. I for one would not want one of those, especially if they are nvme. I can only imagine how low of an endurance those would have.
