As mentioned, choices for a laptop these days should really be M1 Mac or a laptop with a 45W+ CPU like an i7-10750H (H as opposed to U or g7) No point in spending $1000+ on a U series Intel CPU.

That's hardly scientific, IT departments do not have the sharpest people to maintain hi tech equipment. I've had my XPS 13 since 2017 and I use it for software development, and it never let me down.
