What kind of trout? 12-14 inch brook trout then definitely, but if you're into 20+ inch rainbows, browns or even bigger lake trout then no this would work great.

I agree. I have the new version of the Mitchell 300 and a Penn Pursuit, both roughly the same price point and there is nothing that would make me think they are related. Both are great reels, though.
