You are right 2K is just the Cinema aspect ratio with a 1080px vertical. A lot of marketing for no-name cameras and displays use 2K for 1440p since 1440p can be cropped down into 2K.

The problem is 2k is essentially 1080p, the standard is no where close to 1440p, and 1440p is closer to 3k than 2k.
