You dont need it if the tool is in warranty by date. So what ever the dewalt warranty is on that tool you can look at the date stamp which is normally stamped or printed where you insert the battery...

Ryobi is trash only if you are a pro and will perform heavy duty work everyday. Their tools are great for homeowners and DIYers, even some pros use it if they are not in the field of heavy duty work.
