Own and good switch and bought from earlier deal here (paid $10.99 in 2019, $2 cheaper than now). This is decent price, but the issue I have is that it is only 5 ports and one of those is from...

Agree 100%. $19 for same brand in 8 port Depending on how you get your internet at your home, many folks have a spot where it all comes in and a modem and router there, but no wiring and just...

I use it to run one ethernet cord from my router through the floor to the basement. I connect it to this switch and all my devices in the basement to it so that they all have an ethernet connection.

How does this compare to the Netgear GS305 which has a metal case and costs only $0.50 more?
Post #146470364 added 04-06-2021 9:00 AM by Bobertbosun in Deal Talk
It does matter because it takes up more space since you have wires coming out of both sides. It’s more compact to have all cables and power cord coming out of the same side.

Most wi-fi routers have multiple ethenet ports that you can use instead of connecting an additional device like this switch to your wi-fi router.

Need more ports. Need more ports at another location at the end of the run from the router. Need more ports off a wireless client router. And so on.

Never fails...every time I install a 5-port switch, I regret it and wish I had an 8-port one to put in its place.

I have two of these and they work great. I have had no issues with them and they make wiring new devices very convenient.

That makes sense. But because most home users are just going to hide this somewhere out of sight, I don't think it matters too much. Might as well go with the cheaper option.

Thanks. Repped. I asked the question because I purchased a 8-port GS308 a while back for the same price as this. I was hoping for an educated comparison, which you gave.

Think of it sort of as a splitter for ethernet to connect multiple devices to one ethernet connection.

I guess I'm the rare one who don't like it or any switch of similar patch panel style. The design is like a minimized rackmount switch. Ports and indicators in the front and power at the back....

Zero so far, but you gotta start somewhere. Buying the adapters is pointless without the switch, and buying the switch is pointless without the adapters. I wired everything with CAT6 so I would be...

Faster does not equal more stable and reliable. Less wireless traffic for your other devices can help depending on your access point capabilities.
I watched prices for a few days and settled for this one a week ago $12.99 from Newegg, arrived in 2 days. It’s funny that it becomes some great deal when you replace Newegg with Amazon.

I have older wireless routers lying around. Honest question — can’t I effectively use those older routers (wireless turned off) to function like this switch?

yep, just disable any router functions (DHCP, firewall, etc)

I’d spend the $13 to get rid of the 2 routers that you could probably sell for more money, and clear some space at the same time.
