Best version of this game actually came on the Sega Saturn in Japan. It had 2 extra stages, more items, and you could choose Richter or Maria from the beginning.

Loved this game and love the original version of it here on XBox, but the scaling/border options are not ideal. Very difficult to dial in a proper 4:3 aspect ratio. And of course you're kind of stuck...

This has leveling mechanics as well as gear that increase your stats. If you run into a boss that is too difficult you can explore more and become more powerful to lower the difficulty.

I always wanted to enjoy the game but I found it far too unbalanced with very little challenge.
You get way too powerful relatively early in the game IMO and it takes the fun out due to the game...

If your 5 copies are the ps1 unopened black label, you could sell it for alot. I sold my unopened copy on ebay 3yrs ago on auction, sold for over 700.00. I'm sure it probably sells for more now.
