Getting the 8GB version with small SSD may cause excess wear on the SSD and fail. Moreover, the SSD is not user-replaceable.

I would prefer the Mac Mini over the Apple TV. I don’t see any point of Apple TV when Macs can open up a larger app ecosystem than these idevices. The price is the only differentiating factor.

They are sold as refurbished with new refurbished serial numbers and verification shows full warranty same as new. So, I am not sure how you use the serial number to establish they are not new.
