It sounds like there might be some misunderstanding. The Arris is likely a modem, which connects to the Internet. The Netgear is a router which splits the modem's connection to allow multiple devices...

Has Netgear updated their software lately? I have one of their older routers and tried their mesh routers (Orbi) and the software the same crappy stuff from 20 years ago with some lipstick on it.
