So walmart grocery is excluded from 5% then, so best thing to buy visa gc monthly for $6 activation fee which brings the discount to 4% cash back and use every where.

This is the card for dedicated categories. To me, my Custom Cash is only for gas pumps. My wife’s card is only for groceries. We don’t charge anything else on the cards other than these purchases.

I looked closely at the 5 percent categories and to me they are useless. The card I have now has an online shopping category which for me personally is what I do more than anything else.

Yes, it does. I just set up virtual cc for this card via their web portal today. Also worth mentioning, adding this card to Google Pay will also provide a virtual cc.

"Discover it" doesn't always have the category that you want. You can use Citi Custom to fill the holes. The points will be separate but better than earning 1% on 1 card.

The credit card user indirectly control the 5% back category based on what they spend the most on, e.g., groceries. Just make sure you choose one category for each billing cycle and stick with it...

OK this seems like a card you just designate for a single purpose e.g. grocery store. Set a balance alert for $500 and then switch to another card for the rest of the month (eg Double Cash)
