If you are surf fishing, you will need at least 8 ft rod. If you want something cheap, maybe look into the Penn combo, it is about $100. or get one of those H2O surf rod, they are super cheap, but...

$40 GX2 combo all the time. The reel is just garbage, GX2 rod is really a stiff stick. I don't think this is even a fair deal.

The cheapest you can get the rod for nowadays is $40. Can someone explain why this isn’t a good deal while also including a reel? Wirecutter also recommends this rod as their main pick.

Because its not built to handle saltwater. You can use it but you reel will corrode quickly

6' 6" gx2 combo has been $39 all season. The 7' combo is $49. I picked one up last month for this price. It's a great combo for money but not front page worthy.... Am I missing something?
