My Chinese one is like all that have not been calibrated or validated, average 3-10 seconds and accurate to within 5-10 degrees. Good enough is sometimes good enough.

I just had a Thermapen that died after 10 years of moderate use. Got a Thermapop when they were on sale a few weeks ago for $20. The one second readings are nice, but not worth the extra $$$ IMO.
