The P models have upgraded CPUs (1400mhz compared to 800mhz of the original) and I think the radio is better but I am not positive.

I don't understand why it's relevant that Merlin does not officially and overtly support the TM-AC1900. Once flashed, it is identical to the RT-AC68U. The entire flashing process takes about 10-15...

These are renamed RT-AC68U? IMO these aren't expensive enough to justify bothering converting a TM-AC1900. I had to give up on converting my last one a year or two ago despite successfully...

Just get the T-Mobile version off eBay and flash the factory firmware. these do work really well as aimesh nodes!
