Maybe you're right. There's another reason for it, judging from the way they're doing it. Sorta different than typical. Could've just had people opt in when they sign into their card's site.

these bonuses never reflect on the site/app you kinda just have to keep them in the back of your mind. when you make a charge it will show per transaction that you earned the normal 3% back in points...

I think the issue is not all the Costco gas stations may use the same merchant code. Usually it's 5541 (service stations), but if they use 5541 (automated fuel dispensers) then often it does qualify...
