My experience is that they are reasonably fast. I can edit 4K video on them directly. The newer generation is a good 20% faster unless you have a special version of USB 3 that only some PCs(no Mac’s)...

Tried a different cable and even different computers - got the same result. Amazon reviews mention this problem but there are also people who are quite happy, so maybe it's a quality control issue.

Are you sure there wasn’t a bottleneck somewhere in your testing, i.e. possibly the cable or a port limiting the drive’s data transfer rate?

Up to 800MB/s Uhm, no. Maybe 40 MB/s, if you are very lucky. Astonishing slow. Much slower than an external mechanical drive. I had a $100 Best Buy coupon that was expiring and bought this...
