Are you upgrading an your existing account? If so it might be "Transfer SIM". It might also come with a separate SIM card that you need to put in the phone.

I dont think verizon prepaid would work as it requires 60 days of service. 60 days post activation is verizon postpaid unlock policy - just activation and a single day active service is sufficient

You need to chat with them. This is one of the reason I like to cancel with them explicitly instead of porting out so that you have the account and all chat logs. They will apply credit to the bills....
