I got around this by opening up a money market account in June then a checking like 2 weeks later in July. I'm in the DMV area with no branches.

All I know is that it worked. I think my ebay sales payments were 'logged' in as direct deposits while my bank transfer qualified as a "ACH deposit" too.
Somehow i got the $450 bonus on 6k-ish ebay...
