As far as I know, there are no completely locked TMobile firmwares that you CAN'T change the CFE and go to Asus (or whatever). They have become more difficult but so far, all can be converted.

sounds like you forgot to do a NVRAM reset, a NVRAM reset should always be done both BEFORE and AFTER a firmware flash. i personally also go a step further and do a restory factory/router defaults...
