The point of a chest freezer is that it can store food or perishables for a long time without degradation. To do this, a freezer MUST be manual defrost.
To understand this, you have to understand how auto defrost freezers work. They occasionally warm to above freezing to let frost melt and drain. This freezer then refreezes causing freezer burn. Food can even spoil. You WANT a manual defrost in a chest freezer.
Meh. I picked up the 7.2 cu ft version for the same price at Costco a couple months ago... And then Jet.com had the 7.2 cu ft version on sale for $107 a month later. I'd wait for a better deal if it's not needed right away.
That's the con. The pros are it uses less energy and have less freezer burn food.

The 7.2 c.f. version, was that also by arctic king?
I have a 7cf GE at home right now but have been on lookout for another

The Costco freezer was a Hisense and the one on Jet was an Arctic King. We picked up both (one for food, one for beer fermentation) and they look identical to each other and have the same specs. I have a strong feeling they have the same manufacturer.
Anyone suggest just having it shipped to the store and then pick it up versus being shipped home? I hear too many horror stories about small appliances being all banged up for home deliveries.
