ONT was owned by LA World Airports (LAX) for decades. It moved back to local control a few years back. Now that they have local control, the routes (pre covid) have grown rapidly. Unlike the other three major airports in the LA Metro area, ONT has tons of excess capacity in existing terminals and lots of runway space. You can now get direct flights to Taiwan, Mexico, Guatemala and El Salvador.

Great airport. It was a shame that it was neglected by Los Angeles for so long.
You wear masks & SD in airport & get on plane 7" from people who take masks off to eat.
from hawaiian airlines' website:

Forego the 10-day self-quarantine by taking an approved pre-travel test
If you're traveling into or within* the State of Hawaii, you have two options:

1. Quarantine: complete the State's mandatory 10-day self-quarantine
2. Take a pre-travel test: forego the quarantine by taking a pre-travel test
The test must be from a state-approved testing provider
The test must be administered no more than 72 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the final leg to Hawaii

For trans-pacific travel, test results must be received prior to flight departure
To help you review your options, we've organized all of the State's approved trusted traveling partners.

This is a good deal. Yes, there's currently a 10 day quarantine for travelers coming into Hawaii so anyone wanting a vacation and to see the sights would be disappointed. However, there is a workaround to this and that's to have proof of a negative test from approved state providers. And they have arrested travelers trying to negate the quarantine who are flamboyantly posting on social media or screaming tourist.

Next month, it's expected that proof of vaccination provided prior to travel will be able to travel freely so there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Vaccination means you may not have a bad case of Covid-19. Vaccination does not mean you cannot transmit the virus to others. You will still need a negative test before boarding the flight. It is not clear if the free changes to flights and times apply to these lower fares if you cannot fly to Hawaii because of Covid-19 and must fly after May.

Good price but too risky of being denied.

They have a non-stop from Ontario, CA? Kind of random laugh out loud

Good price though if you want to deal with the hassle and risk of not being able to make it pending your test results.

I went to Hawaii in October. Zero issues with testing or approval process. Would recommend to go right now with the islands nearly empty.

I didn't realize they went back under their own control. We used to fly out of there when I was younger. Closer to where we lived, less traffic, parking was cheaper, check-in was a breeze, etc.. Other than the winds that can whip up there it's a great airport Big Grin

I don't necessarily disagree with this but we recently cancelled a trip we had booked for February before all this happened. With the uncertainty of what their requirements will be on the day you fly or what happens if you test positive, etc. it was just worth it to us. Also, not all islands have the same policies. I personally wouldn't want to go to Kauai right now even with their resort bubble program. The lack of crowds is probably great but it's not great if you can't leave the resort if they are participating in the program or your hotel room or AirBNB if you go the other route laugh out loud

ONT is my preferred airport. I don't have to deal with traffic and LAX.
