Guys like Arctic are just repackaging the thermal paste from the manufacturers that supply the professional electronics market. They are pretty much ripping us all off.

Professionally we use much better stuff 8W/m-K. It costs $13 for 30 grams.

MX-5 is 6W/m-K and MX6 is supposed to be 20% better.

For the life of me I don't understand why Arctic doesnt put the spec that matters on the front page. (W/m-K)

The 8W/m-K stuff we use is TG-S808 from T Global available at digikey.

you can get stuff that is 10W/m-K but the price goes up exponentially to 20x or 30x the cost. you are also getting into putty rather than paste which is harder to apply so w stick with the TG-S808 even for military/aerospace applications even when the heat sink temps are 80C and the silicon must run at 100-120C.

The computer enthusiast thermal paste world is very different from professional. You are paying a lot for marketing and the quantifiable metrics of performance W/m-K are often obfuscated.
WmK values arent the whole story of actual performance, even if its accurately stated.

SHin estu g751 for the win. Wait after 25 years its now to 4.5W/m-K... Childhood ruined

I'll be interested to see how this stuff stacks up against Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. I like Arctic as a brand but got in on a previous SD for Kryonaut that has me pretty well stocked. I'd be surprised if the performance difference is significant enough to justify repasting. Also, I'm only using a Ryzen 5 5600, and undervolting anyway, so very unlikely to ever notice a difference here.
Kryonaut lasts only like 1 year before the performance degrades rapidly. MX-4 is supposed to last 8 years but not sure about MX-6.

I would 100% disagree. If the product is being used correctly and according to it's intent (appropriate thickness, pressure etc.) the Wmk is the #1 spec of importance.

Now when you start talking about GAP pads I would agree as their WmK values are very dependent upon thermal cycling, and pressure applied. For pastes. I don't agree with you.

However, if you have literature to suggest otherwise I am eager to see it. Bergquist has a lot of usage info for gap pads but I've never seen application notes for thermal pastes.

I have no reference for kryonaut on my wife's PC, but stressing her new CPU the temp seems to cap at 67c and it is maintaining it's boost clock. She has a Ryzen 5 5500 now. My GPU won't be here until tomorrow so I'll have better info then. But so far it seems fine. her cooler is one of the thin 120mm Corsair aios, so I'm not expecting it to cool it all that great. but I'll take 67c max and maintaining the boost clock.

$1.30 more for some wipes

MX-5 was defective and had all sorts of issues... This will probably be the same. Their product quality dropped over the last year or so.

This isn't really a sale. They put it on the market way overpriced compared to the rest of the market, then dropped the price to make it looks like a good deal. I'd stay away from this product considering the problems with the last version.

I saw a guy on Youtube use peanut butter and it worked.
Of course I doubt it worked for long
I used MX-4 since 2019 and everything still runs nice like ice - solid and cool
My 5900x runs 40s-50s depending

For an enthusiast WmK is very important. Use case is not so straight forward. For someone who replaces their thermal pasted often, then get the best Wmk. However, thermal stability is also important. Some paste will harden over time and lose functionality. When you build a system for family, who will never touch their heatsink, I would want a stable paste. MX4 has shown to be very good in this regard. Kryo not so much.

Wait til you get the MIL that wants the nearly-transparent trash paper. So then you put that in the guest bathroom, and she actually comments that she's flattered that you knew.

Oh sure, I knew. It definitely wasn't a passive-agressive jab attempt. I'm just so caring!

For anyone seeing the mention of $1.30 extra for wipes on the first two pages of comments, here's the link to the same paste with the wipes added:
