Wal-mart sometimes allows the vender that drop-ship collectibles (MJ Holdings) to use "creative license" to set the prices.
It's pretty shady stuff. Essentially Wal-Mart allows MJ to inflate prices when demand increases for certain items, then when demand wains they drop the prices down to ACTUAL MSRP. It's as if they're scalping their own products. To be clear I am referring to the "wal-mart sold" products and NOT the 3rd party vendors Wal-mart allows on their site.
That $66.xx price is an inflated price from earlier this year.
It seems like overproduction + inflated prices has (thankfully) dramatically slowed demand. Expect more discounts popping up on retail sites in the near future on all 2021 Topps collectibles. Post summer the markets seems to have definitely shifted away from the 2020 bubble.
The only mystery is wondering how long it will take Fanatics to wake-up.
