Best Buy has the LG 70NANO75UQA on sale for $649.99 w/ free shipping to most locales.

rtings.com gives the 55" version of this TV a mixed usage rating of 6.5. The lowest contributing marks (5.7 for Movies & 5.3 for HDR Movies) are because of poor dark room performance. The 70" version has a VA panel as opposed to the 55's IPS panel, so it would likely have better dark room performance at the cost of viewing angle. It's best scores of 7.5 were for TV shows and PC monitor usage. It scored 7.2 for sports.

Refresh Rate: 60Hz
Well, that's a pass for me.
FWIW the rtings review is for the 55" IPS model, the 70" is a VA panel which should yield better black uniformity, equal to or better gradient handling, higher brightness, and much better contrast still with the absence of local dimming.
Go for LG OLED if you can swing it, I got my 65" refurb for $850 and love it. Hard pass on anything related to their home theaters/speakers/soundbars, they are awful, their support is awful, their accessories are awful.

Were you expecting higher at that price point? These are cheaply made sets.

I have the 75 nano. Great for sports, terrible for dark scenes.

A common characteristic of the IPS panel not producing ideal contrast and black levels for dark scenes, but fortunately the 70" uses VA

Yes. I got the TCL 6-series, 65" for around $600 from BestBuy last year. It has 120 Hz refresh rate and I love the picture. (Almost more than my C1 sometimes... Blasphemy, I know)

Are the dark scenes impossible to see detail or are they too bright/washed out?

Depends on how bright your room is. My boss just got a LG C2 and his room is all windows, so the picture looks washed out. I have a similar situation and went with a Samsung Q80B and it looks fantastic. OLED TVs are also quite a price jump, so you have to buy the best you can afford.

So, you where honestly trying to compare a top line Fiat to a bottom line Volkswagen based on price? TOTALLY sounds like a legit and sound minded comparison to makeWoot Jump
