I signed up when Citi introduced their Thank You Preferred credit card in 2007 with a lifetime fee waiver (found out about this on a deal board). After 15 years, I was hit with an annual fee this month. They have not sent out any communication about any change in terms or fees, and when I asked their customer support, they said they hadn't, but will send one now.
1. Anyone else in the same boat?
2. Messaging, calling did not help - they offered to close my card if I didn't want to pay the fee.

Any suggestions to keep that fee waived per the opening offer?

Thank you

Not in the same boat, but if you can't get the fees waived I'd consider a product change to the Custom Cash (5% back in your top spend category) or another no annual fee card rather than closing an old and well established credit account.

In same boat, discovered it last week on my April bill...they did offer me a credit for it this year if I spend 1000 each month for the next 3 months after a long argument about the lack of notification about the change

I experienced this. I sent a complaint to the cfpb saying there was no notice. Citi sent a response saying it was included in my November statement. I honestly never read my statements as all my cards are on autopay
