Just a heads up in case you want to recreate the best system ever created. You can trust me -- I'm a caveman.

It's interesting, but still a pass from me. It's a shame everyone decided all the mini systems were a one-shot thing.

I agree with this. TG16 mini is something like 400-500 now, msrp 99. I haven't even looked at SNES or NES minis recently.

is there anything it can do that $50 in pi can't do?

it's too bad no one has found a way to setup a legit cross-platform console and retro store.

No, outside of the fact that I think it's a custom emulator. It's more or less why I didn't buy the TGmini -- I already have it emulated elsewhere and it wasn't worth the premium to me. I'm in on the Analogue because I still have plenty of HuChips, plus the actual controllers. I want to be able to recreate the experience.

Your last sentence is actually why a bunch of people are avoiding the Duo (and perhaps why it's still available for preorder, though maybe they're just making them to order). Unlike Pocket, Duo won't have openFPGA, meaning you won't be able to play Saturn, PS1, etc on it, which you theoretically could. That would be the only way to have a legit cross-platform console. Not sure how the store would work, since the rights are so complicated.

i was thinking more software emu vs openfpga. i envisioned it like steam/play/apple. the publishers just post games and the platform takes a cut. you basically end up downloading a rom and a meta file for the console to build a fancy library and know which emu to use and options if needed.

Ah, gotcha.

In that case, I think it's because licensing. Even if the games publishers were on board, you'd need to have the console makers on board with it as well. IOW, the only reason why it doesn't exist is Nash equilibrium. Capitalism makes it so that the companies involved don't have reason to cooperate.

Its open FPGA and will natively play TG16 and PCE Hucards, as well as region free PCE CD and TG CD games.

I ordered a white one to match my pc engine duo r. The US Duos are notorious for bad caps so its nice to have new HW to play on.
