IDK man. When I was 5 I had a NES and it had a BOMB-ASS D-pad and some KILLER face buttons. I still have the controller and it still works superbly. SUPERBLY, basically like new.
I got a killer controller, and I didn't trash it either. Maybe your kid deserves a good one, too. Alot of kids don't trash the things they love - I'm shocked my nes pad looks so good after two kids using it for a decade or so.
This is probably good enough for a 4th controller used twice a year..
Honestly it makes me a little sad when I see comments on SD where the SDer buys something of low quality with the paraphrased rationale that their kids won't know the difference between quality and junk. People buying bargain basement TVs that their kids will stare at 4+ hours a day.. Ugh.
She's already worn out/broken the dead on one of my oem Switch controllers. Can't afford to give her "the good stuff" when she'll break it in a week. She'll rarely use this controller anyway, only 1-2 games.
8ft cord so expect the switch to be pulled onto the floor often
I bought one of these (different variant) on eBay for this price that was open box but missing the cord. I got one of these cords https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GEDOPR0 and with a little touch of a razor blade it was able to fit. Now it has a 15ft cord. Alternately get a 6" USB extension cable.
The controllers in the OP are practically the same as the "PowerA Wired Controller for Nintendo Switch[amazon.com]" and I already own 2 of them. It's a pass for me on these just b/c I'm not a fan of themed controllers.

A kid will most likely break a controller from drops, no matter what controller it is. So why would any smart individual buy a kid a $200 elite controller when most likely it will suffer the same faith as any of these cheap $10 controllers will.

I don't mean to be contrary. Kids do destroy things sometimes. But may my heart burst in my chest if I'm lying, my siblings and I never destroyed a single controller, and the only thing any of us put away was an original gameboy, which I personally dropped into a toilet. All of our old gaming stuff is still in good shape in the attic at our parents' place. My dad once wrapped a SNES controller's wire so tightly it frayed - bless his heart, he'd sometimes see all the wires, call it a "rat's nest," then furiously wrap up all the controllers.

If only my elite controller was as durable as you describe. I can't even push the bumpers without it breaking in a year. Only way that controller lasts 10 years is in a box on a shelf.
Edit: To clarify referring to my Xbox elite controller
These controllers pop up at various discount stores around the Christmas season for $15. If you don't need rumble, they are perfectly fine for about 6 months of regular use.
