Bought one very similar 2 years ago, with 11 Gen i5 and 256 gb ssd, and I love it. I'm now looking for an additional laptop, and was considering this. But I really think I'd miss the backlit keyboard and the fingerprint reader on the TouchPad, which it appears this lacks. Anyone know for certain?

I've been tempted by past deals for this model, but the WEIGHT always stops me: 4.14 lbs.
Can someone who owns/uses this model explain what makes it so heavy? Is it the chassis material; dated, heavier internal components; other? Any way to practically reduce weight? FYI, I'm mobile practically every day, and every pound matters. TIA.

i7 at $500 is good enough, isn't it?
not all i7s are equal. This is a U series I, which has been known for good battery but bad performance

Just get an M1 MacBook Air for like 650$ on a deal. Better performance, better build quality, better battery. Its hard to justify windows laptops anymore since M1 is so good

Not everyone is happy with a "forever" 8GB / 256GB SSD laptop with one usable port when charging that can never be upgraded. Not everyone wants to switch to a different OS. Obviously, you LOVE Mac's and that's great. Personally, I picked up an ASUS deal with 15.6" OLED, Core i9 13th Gen CPU and has upgradable RAM and 2 SSD slots for the price of a discounted M1 Air. Since I live in a modern country, I have power available almost everywhere I go if I need to plug in plus I have a $40 power bank that will fully recharge my laptop if I happen to find myself stranded on a desert island for a day.

OK, I know this is gonna seem like im some brainwashed apple use. BUT hear me out.

Your logic makes 100% sense, just the issue is that intel chips run stupidly hot for some reason. I really can't figure out why but they are not efficient and are always thermal issues.

And when it comes to 8GB RAM, I used to think just like you and bought HP laptops. But I bought a M2 Mac mini just to try(with 8gb ram) and my god it runs really well actually. I have no idea how it pulls it off but 8GB ram actually works very well. I can't have 6 chrome windows along with a chat app like discord, plus a game of Minecraft running in the background.

Now do I think apple is doing the right thing with 8gb? NO. It's still stupidly stingy how they include 8 gb ram.

When it comes to OS honestly they are the same thing. windows or Mac I dont think anybody really cares in 2024.

You dont seem to understand that M1 offers more performance AND has battery life that lasts days. I can under stand putting up with bad battery for better performance, but thats just not true.

256SSd is plenty for 99% of people. Do I think no upgradeability is good? no. But its not as big of a deal as it may seem

Also can you link the ASUS deal, im actually very curious.

MacBook Air's nor MacOS are my cup of tea. Has nothing to do with tech, everything to do with their biz model, practices and ethics -- as manifested in their ecosystem exploitation and demeaning of consumers.

other than upgradability I dont see what your saying? I think your just running of the "apple is expensive" stereotype.

my 2014 MacBook Air costed me almost 1000$ at the time, but it still works well 10 years later. and Its a base model.

I meant NOT my cup of tea. Sorry about the missing word. Please, dude, no Apple evangelizing. Apple tech is fine, and I don't judge its adherents. I simply don't partake due to their corporate ethics and business model. I can't state this more clearly.

Asus' website says the USB-C on F1605 models (this is F1605ZA-WS74) supports video and power delivery, but an earlier comment in this thread says it does not. Can anyone confirm? Would love to do one port docking

Just bought it from Walmart.. feels stupid to assume the usb-c port would have a video output. Except this laptop doesn't have.. going to return tomorrow.

I've been burned on this before— are you sure you used a USB-c cable that supports DisplayPort? The cable does matter and it is frustrating.
