I have all my original Metallica CDs and they are still easy to find and affordable. Some of these Metallica remasters aren't bad though and while they are boosted in volume, they aren't loudness war clipping nightmares like Death Magnetic. That said, I avoid remasters as I have never seen the point. One of CDs original selling points was the dynamic range so why not stick with the 80's and early 90's versions when they still mastered them for speakers and not for apple ear buds.

Amazon does it with some of the vinyl records but it isn't consistent from what I can tell.

Pearl Jam Ten album sounds better remastered. One has to listen both and decide for themselves. I'm in the "I pay taxes that fund my public library" camp, and it has all I could possibly want. For the oddball record not available in our coop, then there's eBay. Whatever comes I enjoy, remastered or not.
