Walmart has the RCA RPJ167 1080P 450 ANSI lumen LED projector for $65 free shipping

This item is now on clearance so who knows how long they will still have it before it runs out.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-10...1812141904

This price is only $5 higher than BF price. This projector is of course significantly higher than the sold-out RPJ280 ($30) but you get a significantly higher lumen with THREE female HDMI ports (instead of only 2 female HDMI, one male HDMI within a weird recess on the RPJ280)
  • 50,000hr LED lamp life
  • Also has two USB 2.0 to power stream stick as well as to plug in the flash drive to show movies and listen to music
  • Has two 5W speakers. Not very loud but will work decently for quiet environment.
  • I have this as well as the RPJ280 and I think the price premium of the RPJ167 over the RPJ280 is worth it. You do get a better built product in the RPJ167 compared to the RPJ280
  • There is also a 4K interpolation mode that allows this projector to emulate 2160p at 30hz. Found this out when connecting it to my laptop.

This thing is definitely NOT trash. obviously the construction is cheaper than my 720p Sharp DLP projector that i bought for $1500 several years ago. But it's definitely usable. For one thing, a lot of the toy amazon projectors are just 360p or 480p native resolution pretenders that basically just trying to pass by as 1080p.

This is definitely not one of those. This one even has a usable 2160p 30hz emulation as an unlisted feature

The corner blur issue is definitely less of the issue on this one compared to the RPJ280. I also have the Vankyo V620 which does have the corner blur issue.

Of all the three cheap projectors, this one is definitely the best one IMO
I don't have this projector, but I have a Vankyo V700W that I got off of eBay for like $37.00 that has basically the same specs as this. Comparable lumens, sound output, etc... Absolutely it's a toy, but it can be really fun, honestly, provided you know what you're getting and keep your expectations tempered. I project a 100" image to a pull down screen I have in my family room. It probably throws 100" from maybe roughly 10 ft? I'd have to measure it to be sure. Picture quality for what I have is pretty good. Decent color reproduction, decently bright, and 3.5mm out to my sound bar in the room makes the sound issue negligible. Whatever you do you'd definitely want to make sure you have an external sound device.

Image gets soft/out of focus around the corners, and I'd expect that's going to be standard on any projector in this price range. I've hooked an Xbox Series S up to it and had a lot of fun playing Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy at 100". It's immersive in a way that smaller TVs just can't match. Obviously there's a hit to picture quality vs whatever 4K TV you currently have, but again just going in with your expectations at reasonable levels I think most anyone would enjoy it for what it is. I get mine out any time were doing a movie night at home and it's just fun, and everyone likes being at the "theater".

Anyway, I hope that helps and feel free to ask any other questions!
well, it's good to see projectors getting a lot cheaper. Hopefully we will get a true 4K projector under $100 soon!

Will click a picture and share it later today. That shadow thing is so small and I like the projector, part of me thinking if I get a new one it may have similar or some other issue. This shadow shows up in the area where it shows 1080p 30hz etc in blue background(easily noticeable)

Edit:
Here are the pictures:

I will look later tonight. Interesting artefact.. Thanks for the pics

This thing looks ok. As another person commented, and one of the Amazon comments said also that these low-end LCD projectors are basically all the same, most are HEAVILY discounted from their "msrp" - like 50-75% off with coupon on Amazon, and many come with stuff like a bag and cloth screen. The RCA's specs are pretty good, price is just about correct, but not really a deal
Problem with amazon sometimes is that sellers hide the fact that the native resolution not 1080p. or some other details

Has anyone had luck with their PJ playing nice with a throw distance of only 1m or 1.5m to screen? The walmart and rca-television.com sites indicate that 1m/32" is possible, and manual indicates 1.5m/48" is possible. I can't get my unit to focus any closer a 5.5ft ~1.7m throw for a ~60" projection image.

Just wanting to see if my unit is an oddity or not. Keystone focus ring is also pretty poor on how far it's willing to move, but that throw distance is leaving quite a bit to be desired at the moment.

Sometimes a smaller image or throw distance is desired and necessary for space constraints.

i haven't tried the projector that close to the screen. but the keystone adjustment was the worst I've seen and i've got a handful of cheap projectors. i seriously thought it must be broken, you can barely move it at all.

other than the keystone and how loud it is, i think it's OK. but i don't use it any longer since i've got some better more expensive options. thinking i might set it up in the hay loft in our barn and let my daughter use it to play her old nintendo wii games on it...

I have this issue too, unfortunately. They are likely dust blobs. Look at the lens (from an offset angle, so as not to blind yourself) and check out how clean yours looks. In addition to being speckled with dust, mine looks like it has greasy fingerprints swirled around the lens right out of the box. Unfortunately it's going back.

Otherwise this is definitely worth the price. Turn down contrast to ~33, sharpness to 0, crank color to taste (80ish for me), and color temp to cool (normally like warm, but this seemed to preserve the most detail). I was pretty pleased with this after tinkering

Mine has a few tiny specks of dust on the LCD itself ;(. Seems like it does have some QC issues in that regard. The small projected dust only noticeable if you look for it. But the color accuracy OOB is fairly decent..

Chiming in on the dust issues. Definitely poor QC in assembly for these PJs. Mine had a huge smudge across the lens along with lots of dust in/out/front/behind the lens assembly. I'm pretty sure these aren't sealed assemblies at this cost.

I did return my RCA. The keystone adjustment is a joke, the fan is just too loud, and not being able to focus reliably under 2m throw was just a deal breaker.

Additionally: if anyone is curious, I did a quick (and very informal) input lag test against my laptop's panel and the projector was consistantly 75-90ms behind the laptop's panel.

Definitely not a fair comparison, and the RCA was meant to be a toy, but I dug out my 15 year old Infocus X9 and particularly in the ability to focus down to 1m and <30db noise sealed the fate for the RCA being returned.

I got this yesterday and I must say very impressed with display quality. Image quality is really sharp and I would say it's very comparable to my 700$ laser project.
Low on noise too..
We'll built and decent sound (however I use a sound bar any ways)

If it holds up for few years, this certainly is slick deal.

Just to update, I got mine and must be lucky since I didn't have the dust issue. I was surprised by the quality of this. The fan was noisy but with good speakers I didn't really notice. I actually played Baldur's Gate 3 with friends on it and there wasn't any noticeable lag. Wish it was a little brighter but definitely not complaining at $65.

The input lag probably only noticeable with FPS

The projector actually has pretty decent color to it OOB..I wonder has anyone run a calibration test

I just got mine and I can either focus the right side of the screen or the left. Is it defective? Am I doing something wrong? Or should I order another and return this one? It's aiming square at the center of the wallโ€ฆ.
