Walmart has the RCA RPJ167 1080P 450 ANSI lumen LED projector for $65 free shipping

This item is now on clearance so who knows how long they will still have it before it runs out.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-10...1812141904

This price is only $5 higher than BF price. This projector is of course significantly higher than the sold-out RPJ280 ($30) but you get a significantly higher lumen with THREE female HDMI ports (instead of only 2 female HDMI, one male HDMI within a weird recess on the RPJ280)
  • 50,000hr LED lamp life
  • Also has two USB 2.0 to power stream stick as well as to plug in the flash drive to show movies and listen to music
  • Has two 5W speakers. Not very loud but will work decently for quiet environment.
  • I have this as well as the RPJ280 and I think the price premium of the RPJ167 over the RPJ280 is worth it. You do get a better built product in the RPJ167 compared to the RPJ280
  • There is also a 4K interpolation mode that allows this projector to emulate 2160p at 30hz. Found this out when connecting it to my laptop.

This thing is definitely NOT trash. obviously the construction is cheaper than my 720p Sharp DLP projector that i bought for $1500 several years ago. But it's definitely usable. For one thing, a lot of the toy amazon projectors are just 360p or 480p native resolution pretenders that basically just trying to pass by as 1080p.

This is definitely not one of those. This one even has a usable 2160p 30hz emulation as an unlisted feature

The corner blur issue is definitely less of the issue on this one compared to the RPJ280. I also have the Vankyo V620 which does have the corner blur issue.

Of all the three cheap projectors, this one is definitely the best one IMO
I don't have this projector, but I have a Vankyo V700W that I got off of eBay for like $37.00 that has basically the same specs as this. Comparable lumens, sound output, etc... Absolutely it's a toy, but it can be really fun, honestly, provided you know what you're getting and keep your expectations tempered. I project a 100" image to a pull down screen I have in my family room. It probably throws 100" from maybe roughly 10 ft? I'd have to measure it to be sure. Picture quality for what I have is pretty good. Decent color reproduction, decently bright, and 3.5mm out to my sound bar in the room makes the sound issue negligible. Whatever you do you'd definitely want to make sure you have an external sound device.

Image gets soft/out of focus around the corners, and I'd expect that's going to be standard on any projector in this price range. I've hooked an Xbox Series S up to it and had a lot of fun playing Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy at 100". It's immersive in a way that smaller TVs just can't match. Obviously there's a hit to picture quality vs whatever 4K TV you currently have, but again just going in with your expectations at reasonable levels I think most anyone would enjoy it for what it is. I get mine out any time were doing a movie night at home and it's just fun, and everyone likes being at the "theater".

Anyway, I hope that helps and feel free to ask any other questions!
well, it's good to see projectors getting a lot cheaper. Hopefully we will get a true 4K projector under $100 soon!

Just got the second one, yet to test fully but initial 5 minutes shows that it is definitely better than the last one received. No dust or any issues. Will test it more tomorrow.

I just got mine and I can either focus the right side of the screen or the left. Is it defective? Am I doing something wrong? Or should I order another and return this one? It's aiming square at the center of the wallโ€ฆ.
How's the center focus? With the cheap optics, the center would be in focus and the corner very slightly out of focus symmetrically;.

Center is ok. And one side is great. The other is bad. Either way, ordered a new one and while the edges are a tad blurry it's not nearly as blurry as the one side was on my first unit. Also, fan seems quieter. I definitely keep the second.

Good to know the replacement is better. I guess the QC on these are not that good, but at least walmart return policy and delivery is hassle free.

Ordered Monday, arrived today. I will admit I am surprised by the quality - pretty bright, pretty sharp (as compared to the 5-year old 1080p TVs I have in the house). Not sure what I will do with it yet. My biggest question of application is how best to connect external audio to it, as there is only a 3.5 mm output. Would love to use this in place of my aged 65" TV downstairs, but I don't want to lose the receiver and 5.1 speaker setup I've currently got going. Any suggestions?
Use the receivers "hdmi in" for source and receiver "hdmi out" for projector. If no hdmi get a source with optical or coaxial out. If using a pc get a usb sound card with optical out or something like that.

Wont drop that low until the next technology becomes standard. If you want a cheap decent 4K, get a refurb BenQ when it goes on sale. Think it was around $350-$400, but it's pretty decent.
I've never seen a BENQ 4k projector at that price range. Even the 1080p refurbished ones are $450 when available, however, they're putting out 3800 lumens. The cheapest 4k BENQ or viewsonic projectors I've seen are around $700+ price range refurbished but the reviews aren't that great so I've always passed.

Any recommendations for calibration levels for the contrast, brightness, sharpness, color, etc?

Just got mine. I'm pleasantly surprised!

I own a BenQ HT2050A but I want a cheap projector for outdoor movie nights. I've tried a couple of no-name ones from Amazon and one of them was decent enough, but only lasted about a year before the keystone stopped working due to ultra cheap plastic materials. The other Amazon one was junk and all the specs were a lie, including resolution.

This feels substantial, comes with a hefty power brick, and the video quality was immediately miles better than the cheap Amazon ones I've tried. Color accuracy isn't perfect, but quality is fine right out of the box without feeling like you have to calibrate it immediately (although I will eventually fine-tune it in the settings). On the Amazon ones I've tried the colors and contrast made them unwatchable right out of the box and the worse one couldn't even be calibrated enough to justify keeping it.

It is not super bright, but I'd say the claimed 450 ANSI lumens seems accurate. Bright enough for backyard use for sure, but not really bright enough to use during daytime with the blinds shut.

One downside is the fans are super loud - I can hear them over my soundbar at a moderate volume level. Not a dealbreaker for me at all, but worth mentioning. The other thing is that the keystone adjustment is extremely limited, so placement options are limited.

Most important is that resolution, contrast, and color accuracy out of the box were surprisingly in line with the claimed specs and I was able to plug in a TV stick and start enjoying it with zero setup. Very happy with this purchase!

The options on this one are very limited, it turned out. You can't fine-tune color, just brightness and contrast, but once you do the picture quality really is very good. Follow the on-screen instructions on these two videos. Adjust brightness/contrast until only the appropriate bars are visible blinking. Do this in lighting conditions similar to what you'll usually be using while watching content.

Got mine - impressed with picture quality! Blacks are better than on my other led projector from reputable brand that retails for 1.4k. Does anyone know which DLP chip this RCA uses to get that quality for 65 bucks? One drawback is that it's a little bit noisy. Connected my Chromecast with android TV and started enjoying right away!

Updated: actually decided to return - found spots on the screen - looked at the lens and it's scratched and has fingerprints marks. Also the image is not rectangular.

I don't think this is DLP. I think it's LCD. When I rotate my hand in front of the picture I don't see any rainbow colors.

Glad you got a good one and enjoy it Wink I did with mine too
