Blasted with light!? lol it's not that bright… maybe if your house is pitch black. Hardly an issue considering the many benefits. Look to see if your city offers local rebates!
Thank you for keeping me away from a consumption mindset. My current ecobee lite works fine and I rarely interact with it much in the hallway.
Just an FYI there is no way to disable the motion sensor from turning the screen on, even at night. So if you walk by your thermostat in the middle of the night to use the restroom you will get blasted with light from this thing.

I tried the Ecobee (came from a Nest) & I just didn't like it.
Why I didn't like the Ecobee?
1. The temp of the unit was hot (yes electronics is hot), behind was insulated. I can set-the offset to adjust bla bla..

2. When I set the temp to e.g. 78 it would power cycle... get to that temp & power cycle / stop.. I had to adjust the offset again.. for temp, so if you set it to 78, make it go to 77 basically.

3. The info far as usage etc, it has a ton more info than Nest, however you HAVE TO LOG INTO YOUR Ecobee with a computer to see all of that. I don't really care about all the -analytics but I'd like to at least see e.g. like the Nest has.... shows AC / Heater ran for 3 hours yesterday on the app.

4. Note, Ecobee support was very helpful with my scenarios and such, I ultimately didn't feel like the Ecobee was worth $200+ & returned it to Costco. I had a Nest gen 1 and went back to a Nest Gen 3. I really like the Nest Gen 3 now. All in all, if you get the Ecobee, it is FULLY customizable & some of that customization, is needed to get it dialed in. Do you want to do / mess with that? Up to you. Hope this helps.
A bit too late, but for others that have an Ecobee, you should check out beestat.io for better analytics. There's apps (wrappers) for Android and iOS. It also has some more useful tips to get better energy efficiency out of it, like increasing the temperature threshold.

I think Ecobee really nailed it out of the park from the get go. IMO, it's superior to the Nest since you can more easily create schedules, had remote temperature sensors right away (took Google a long time to adopt that idea). My in-laws gave up on the Nest trying to learn their schedule, so it's just a glorified thermostat that they manually adjust every time. They work night shifts, but then some days the grandchildren go over so they're awake during the normal sleep period.

Got this on the last deal and just a heads up it didn't work with my carrier infinity system installed in 2018. The humidity would never come down for 3 days about 65%. I reinstalled my old thermostat and it worked great cooling my house in no time and dropped the humidity down to 50%. I installed the accessory just as instructed by ecobee but the way that the infinity system works it's not a dedicated dehumidifier. Just my experience. and I'm no hvac guy. There could be a work around to make it work right but to me it was just not worth calling the hvac company out and spend another 300 bucks. I'll just get up off the couch and change it manually.

If you already claimed an offer through your utility company can you do it again after x amount of time?

Or just once? My utility company website is 🗑️ half the links on the site end up 404'd.

I bought one of these last year and the thermostat on the wall unit is way off. I had to make an offset by several degrees in order for it to be more accurate, but even then, as the temp changes from low to high, the temperature that the wall unit says compared to other thermostats is never consistent. I probably should have returned it but I didn't want to deal with removing it and adding my old non-smart Honeywell back to the wall.

I have two of these, one for each zone. I enjoy using it as a HomeKit thermostat, Siri voice terminal, and even an AirPlay target, if you like listening to music on a super tiny speaker.

Also, when you do a HomeKit "announcement", it comes though on that speaker like it's a HomePod. Pretty unique.
How well does it work for 2 zone home? I was trying to figure out the best smart for a two zone home.

This is not true, there's an option to disable the display in the sleep comfort setting

Either it doesn't work or it doesn't fully disable the motion sensor.

I also feel like it's really bright. But I also thought my previous nest was really bright as well. I do wish that at night time it was lower brightness.

I love the ecobee sensors. I got the previous gen model with the smart sensor for $65 on clearance from Home Depot and I used to carry the little thing around to see what the temperatures were like in each room of the house. Since them I've bought 4 more of the smart sensors from people on Offerup and Facebook marketplace for way less than retail and I can see exactly which rooms run cold/hot. The house overall feels more comfortable now because the Ecobee takes info from all of the sensors to manage the temperature.

Are these any good? Do they work well with heat pumps?

Yes, I just installed 2 in my home last week and I have a heat pump. My advice is to take a picture of your control board wiring and match those wires up on the thermostat. Turns out the one I replaced wasn't wired entirely correct 👀

This seems like a lukewarm deal. My local energy company has the same pricing on these components:
Ecobee Premium (includes 1 sensor) - $150
2 pack sensor - $99 ($50 each)

So to get the same equipment you have to spend 250 and get a third sensor vs 200 here for 2 sensors and Costco has an awesome return policy. That third sensor costs you 50 bucks whereas you can regularly find a 2 pack of sensors for 80 bucks.

Ecobee premium with 1 sensor usually retails for around 180-200. Getting an extra sensor for $0-20 is a good deal.

Maybe your idea of what's "warm" is driven by your house heating unevenly in which case an extra sensor would do you good.

You can turn down the brightness of the active as well as standby screens.
