I have this tablet. Battery life is not that great, but screen is surprisingly good for LCD. It's also kinda heavy. I'm waiting for this tablet to be eligible for trade in.

For general use, it's fine. Nothing to brag about.
I traded in an S7 FE for an S9+ for myself, and I bought the 256GB model of the S9 FE with this Amazon deal for my girlfriend. I have been comparing them side by side now and frankly I don't see much validity in a lot of the critical comments here.

Note that my reference is the 256GB model with 8GB RAM, so YMMV with a 6GB RAM model.

Also note that if anyone has a worthwhile trade-in device with the enhanced trade-in values, I would definitely recommend the flagship S9 over this tablet, because it can be had for about the same price when trading in something like an S7 FE (which I did). But for buying out of pocket with no trade-in, this is an attractive price. In the future you will likely get a very good trade-in value on this device, compared to garbage or even non-existent trade-in values of competing devices in this price range.

This is a good deal on a decent tablet for people who don't do intense games, who don't want to deal with obsolete tablets (no more software updates), or who don't want to gamble on used/refurbished previous gen flagship-tier tablets. As someone who despises Apple's OS and interfaces and business practices, I think this is a very good alternative to Apple's "budget minded" tablets (which cost more on par with a full S9 anyways).

S9 FE 8GB is certainly way above anything budget end like a Fire tablet. It is much better than the A9+. Despite comparable CPU with the S7 FE it is absolutely much more responsive. The extra RAM over older tablets alone makes a big difference in performance compared to obsolete tablets that only have 4GB.

The screen on this is actually very nice even compared side by side to the S9 120hz OLED. It is a good implementation of IPS screen. 90hz refresh rate compared to 120hz is not really noticeable in regular use and will only make any real difference in fast paced games. Maybe not the best in very bright direct sunlight, but any indoor use is very good display.

I have not noticed any legitimate slowness with loading or switching apps. I did disable RAM Plus on first setup because I have seen it cause issues on previous Samsung devices. Multiple apps running with several browser tabs open and nothing stands out as being slow or choppy. It does seem to get a little warm when running something like Minecraft or Civ VI for extended periods, but that also isn't anything out of the ordinary for most phones and tablets either. This isn't a gaming powerhouse, but it appears capable of playing most games out there without issue. I have started playing with emulation and so far it is holding up with Xbox and PS2 tier games and some older PC games without any issues.
Best Buy has the same price. Also, 256GB versions have $100 discounts as well (they come with 8gb as opposed to 6gb ram on the 128GB)

The processer on this tablet is somewhat slow (exynos 1380), but it should be adequate for web browsing, streaming videos and note-taking. The added bonus (at least for some people) is that the screen (non-oled) has a very high pwm frequency, so it should be comfortable to the eyes.

How's the performance? I'm looking at the iPad 10th gen since it's the same price. I'm in the Apple Ecosystem too.

You know, I didn't really notice any sluggishness with normal day to day task (E.g. Emails, browsing, Amazon, YouTube, Netflix, etc).

Switching between apps is pretty instantaneous. I really don't do anything processor intensive like 3D gaming or anything like that.

I've owned galaxy tab s6, s7fe, and S8U. So I'm comparing my experiences with those snapdragon based tablets. I would say this reminds me a bit of the under powered S7FE, but slightly better in terms of performance.

Like I said, the one thing that really stood out to me was how fast the battery drains, and how heavy /thicc this tablet is paired with a 3rd party keybkard case. Without battery saver mode, I can prolly have it on standby for... 3-4 days and it goes to about a week under battery saver mode. I seemed to remember my tab s6 lasting way longer than that.

For basic tasks and for $350, this tablet should be good for years to come?

Me too waiting to see what apple presents. I returned this tablet several weeks ago. It was too heavy and poor for my elderly eyes.

For something basic, it's alright. I actually didn't realize it's priced at $350 😂. That seems kinda high, I did a trade in and got it for $135. My sole purpose of getting this is hoping that it will fetch decent trade in value with Samsung in the future.

How much is an iPad? IPad I think beats the performance of This tablet if the same price. But yeah, you have to decide what you wanna do with it

iPad 9 is $250, 10 is $350, and Mini 6 is $399.

I prefer the size of the mini for e-reading, but prefer to spend for value.

Plus, this having USB C and the stylus is a nice plus over the iPads I'm considering.

Sorry to hear that. I'm surprised it didn't help much at all with the 11" size.

The latest rumors are an iPad Air 12.9" model and two new OLED iPad Pros at 11" and 13".

Does anyone remember if Samsung was going to release a new 8" tablet? What happened to those plans?
