350 TBW, AND it's SATA ? where do I sign up ! (pure sarcasm). Seriously though, there are ssd's out there with 3600 TBW for 2tb, not sure why anybody would buy a 350 TBW, that's about 10 times less lifespan. Not such a hot deal if you consider what you get.

I think its a good drive for data storage needs that are not written over constantly like file and image storage, with a 5 year warranty. Also good for a boot drive for a server, specially one with a ton of moving drives. I bought 3 4TB ones for fast file/image storage access in Raid 5 (8TB storage) and a couple 500GB ones for boot drives on system that don't have PCI-E drives. Endurance could be better, but I don't think it will matter for the 5 years I plan to use them.

It's not, 1TB was $39.95 last August/September. 4TB was $155.

Smilie totally but after seeing GPUs, Raspberry PIs, Printers, Ubiquiti's and now SSDs, it just felt like other components will be just a matter of time.

All WD drives i had all died maybe a year or less outside warranty period. red, blue, green, purple, you name it i tried it and it all failed. from bad sectors to just going ka-put. even if these drives were free, i wouldn't use them. stay clear, if not backup, backup, backup your data.

You must be cursed.

Backup is a great idea even if you're not using WD.

i have the exact opposite experience. my wd black 500gb is my oldest drive, i think from 2006. it went through cross country moves. in 2023, it no longer spinned up. no click, no nothing. troubleshooting it showed it wasnt a header/plate problem. my multimeter showed 3 diodes shorted out on the circuit board, zero continuity. $15 later for another used black drive with the exact circuit board revision, i swapped out the boards, and it saved my data, and the drive is still running. i also have 4x 1tb green drives from 2010 running in a quad backplane to usb 3, ever any issues.. my latest is a wd 12tb external from 2020. zero issues. i will miss easy fixes. ssd's just cant be fixed easily.

The 512GB is 350TBW. The 2TB and 4TB are 1300TBW and 2500TBW which is pretty good. Unless you're doing something extreme with it, most people wont come close to that. That being said, this isn't a great deal based on the price and having to buy 2 of them to get that price.
