Was at Walmart and this drive is on clearance for $27 (bought one at Walmart just a couple weeks ago on clearance for $40). Seems to be in-store only ($48 online). There were 3 at my store, not sure how widespread this is.

Some other drives that have been spotted with the yellow tag clearance:

WD Black SN850 1TB Gen 4 NVMe: $60 (might be in the PlayStation cabinet)
WD Black SN770 500GB Gen 4 NVMe: $29 or $31.50
WD Blue SN570 1TB Gen 3 NVMe: $42

WD Black D10 8TB external drive: $108 (allegedly can be schucked for an HGST enterprise drive within)
WD Black D30 500GB external SSD: $35
FYI, this is what the average great Walmart employee thinks of someone asking about inventory from Brickseek.

Walmart employees calling others losers. 😂
Lol, that is an interesting thread, thanks for sharing. Like, I understand that some (a lot) of customers are probably awful, but c'mon - if I'm just asking you them to simply check if an item shows in stock with their in-store scanner tool, is that really that much of an inconvenience to them? Like, that's specifically part of their job description, to help customers find the items we're looking for.

Anyway, interesting insight into the mentality of a Walmart employee (or at least some Walmart employees).

Is it possible they are the clearance price in store only vs the price I see for pickup today on their website/app? On their website it's the regular $43 for the 500gb at all surrounding stores that have it in stock although one was at $39...
I used the website to find which stores had items available for sale but not the prices per se.
I ended up buying five units at two different stores.
The units were in a locked glass container and clearance tags were displayed.
The 512 blue units were $25 in the store despite the fact that the web showed a higher price.
They did have 512 black units for $42 but I figured for just $3 more, I'd take the 1tb blue unit.
Hope this helps….

Stopped by hoping to find the PNY w the software for $10 but it's still 20 something. This store has a bunch of WDs at OP's prices.

I acquired about 15 Lenovo T470s i7 laptops for free without drives that these will be perfect for (plan to resell them). Not everyone is doing high end gaming or video editing. What you paid a few months ago is not really relevant today.

Super jealous!!

SN570 and SN770 clearance prices confirmed at one local Walmart. (No stock at the others.)
Blue SN570 500GB $25
Blue SN570 1TB $42
Black SN770 500GB $29

Black SN850 was in stock, but at the regular online price.

You can check stock in a store by setting it as your pickup location and seeing if you get same-day pickup.
That won't tell you if they marked it down: it'll show the regular online price. But it seems like the Blues are almost always marked down. YMMV on Blacks.

still list price in the oregon wallmart's that I was able to check. Had a clearance sticker but it stated list price was $42 and clearance price was also $42.

Might have been too early in the process here.

I also wanted to replicate that other user's $10 price for the 500GB PNY upgrade kit (M280CS2140), so I stopped by 3 nearby stores this weekend.

What I found was that the *clearance* price was $44.50, but the tag listed the *unit* price as $22.25, as if there were two drives in the box instead of one. It's just a guess, but maybe someone at corporate mistakenly saw the kit's USB-to-NVMe adapter as a second "unit".

Anyway, I asked about the pricing discrepancy and, after escalating the matter, wound up getting the kit for the lower price. However, the manager chose to pull the remaining boxes from the shelf so that they could follow up with the price tag issue on Monday.

Regarding some of the other clearance items, the same store had the 500GB WD Blue SN570 for $25 (slightly cheaper than elsewhere), and the 500GB WD Black SN770 for $31.50 (slightly more expensive); I passed on both, since the PNY was a better deal than the SN570 (same size & warranty, but with the transfer adapter and Acronis software), and I scooped the SN770 for $29 at a different location.

If that is the 1TB, that IS the clearance price. If that was the 500GB, not a clearance price.

Picked up a 1TB at the Arlington, WA Walmart today for $42 today. They still had both sizes in stock.

Walmart only hires upscale employees, preferably with Ivy League backgrounds….where they were tossed before graduation for plagiarism.

I visited one of my local stores that showed stock of both the 500GB Blue and 500GB Black. Brickseek was wrong about prices on both. They had about 5 of the SN770 Black 500GB for $29 and just a few o fthe Blue 500GB for $25. I bought one of each to upgrade some older laptops that were stuck with slower SATA M.2s. They had the PNY 500GB with the USB adapter but it was $44.50. I passed on that. They were out of the 1TB models. Both models hit the claimed read/write speeds with CrystalDiskMark.

I can't get this deal but what do you recommend in throw away nVME SSDs used for cache for a NAS. Get used/refurbished ones?

No.
Synology has the recommended solutions on their web page. Just input you NAS Model. Currently there are no WD nvme drives on their list for my 920+ Seagate, Samsung, only.
