I spent several hours on this. Finally beat it. Was so proud of myself. Then, I found out I just beat the first map and there are like 4 more to go. And the difficulty got even more ramped up.

There are patterns. And the only way to learn them is through repetition. Which is why I was so surprised there were as many levels as they were. I thought they were doing the old Nintendo hack of just making the game get damn near impossible so nobody can complain the game was short. But Studio MDHR did a great job. Where their game design failed was - go back to Sonic 2. Remember how Tails respawned without affecting Sonic? That was such a great game dynamic as I can play with my daughter now, could have played with my sister then, etc. The content isn't mature. Yet for younger gamers, this is die in 15 seconds and cry about it tier. And I find that sad as they put so much work into the artwork, styling, etc. that you would think that they want casual gamers to be able to see everything.

But if you aren't a masochist, and you aren't playing multi-player, Cave Story might be worthy of consideration.

It's an acquired skill not necessarily hard but pattern recognition. Why do I make this statement? Based on that my 5-year-old mastered it and aims for an S score which is better than an A grade (as in education grades). And when I had him play super Mario world on SNES, he quit bc he said that was too hard for him and went back to Cuphead.

Yo it's a hard game but to see some of the anger from actual adults about how unfair it is they can't see end level game art is... interesting to say the least. Especially anyone with kids. Like why teach your kid to be a quitter? "Get good" as the young folk like to say!

Beautifully done game. I had no issues with the difficulty. Some bosses took more attempts than others, but it was always fair.

I'm over 40 and I can tell you-- there's just basic pattern memorization-- it's not that hard! The game is beautiful, the music is awesome.
I love this game
I dunno, maybe the games were harder when I was a kid and these new gamers just can't hang.
