So the remote control with display can't do waypoint tracking? And just so I'm understanding, you'd rather plug your phone into the remote and use it as the screen? I thought it would be much easier to get the controller that has the integrated screen.. Any advice/thoughts are greatly appreciated!

No it can, he's either talking about using a different app to control or he's talking about not being able to create a waypoint mission outside of the controller and upload it. Both of the second part can be done already, there is at least one video on YouTube how to take a waypoint mission and mod the points you want into it on a computer. The first is a matter of preference. A lot of people have used other apps like litchi to fly and those apps expose more capabilities, but in 4 years of having a Mavic mini I couldn't see the point of having to pay for an app to fly when dji provided one free.

Edit, re way points, for the mini 3 this is correct. Mini 4 pro has way points built in.

The whole remote control fiasco for these drones is giving me a headache lol. Im trying to decide which is best and where I want to invest my money.

Mini 3 Pro w/RC: no waypoints, cannot "sideload" 3rd party software since the memory is too small
Mini 3 Pro w/RC N1: for Android only, DJI has released the API to support 3rd party SW on a tablet or phone.
Mini 4 Pro: supports native waypoint capability for both remotes. DJi has not released an API and said they probably won't so no 3rd party SW. Many prefer the 3rd party to the native.

Just to be clear, when discussing "waypoint" the reference means "DJI waypoints" since there are other apps or 3rd party solutions which *might* work but probably not without a decent SDK. But no, I don't recall there being waypoints in my Mini 3 Pro other than some type of hyperlapse.

For just a little more you can get the mini 4 pro refurbished combo from DJI with the screen remote. Once you use the remote with the built in screen you'll never go back to the phone remote. Plus the added features of the DM4P make it truly worth the added expense.

This is a nice price for the pro with extra batteries. I have been waiting for a sale on mini 3 or 4 pro for months and finally paid $1,000 for the 4 pro with fly more bundle. It may be worth it to get 4 pro with display and fly more batteries for $300 more.

Fo 50% more you are not getting 50% better drone . There is slight improvement only compared to the 4

Your math is off Wink ... it's 33% more between 3 pro vs. 4 pro. In addition, there is no display for 3 pro remote control (RC-N2) vs display remote control on the 4 pro (RC2). This feature alone is worth $200. Take that into consideration, you only pay $130 more for the 4 pro (roughly 13% more for the newer model.

And then you get to see the same real-time display on the smartphone? so the inbuilt screen on the new controller doesn't add any functionality other than just having the same show up on the controller?
Not to be "smart" but you should do some extensive research other than asking questions on Slickdeals if you are this unclear about drones.

This is my train of thought as well.

You do get the same real time view with your phone connected to the remote. But it is inconvenient. At least with my older dji air, my phone with case wouldn't fit on the remote, then for some reason only 1 out of 4 cables I tried worked with the remote. If you don't have a bright screen on your phone you can't see well on a bright day. It is a bit of a pain but manageable if you are on a budget. I personally would pay for the pro remote after the pain of using a phone as screen. Though if you get one compatible with the goggles, I think they are the best. Be careful with compatibility there though and check that you do not need the phone to use the goggles. You do not need it with the dji fpv, which is my favorite drone personally

Would love this price with the screen! I guess I will pass for now.
