Not new. Prices for 12 packs of pop in my area go for $8 when not on sale. And there's no Big Lots stores anywhere nearby. So for me, this is a great deal. Sorry it's not for you.
No Big Lots near me, but

there was also a $5 of $30 food offer at Target (for me at least)

so I ordered six 12-packs which will cover us for multiple upcoming gatherings

Price came out to ~ $3.50 per 12-pack
$3 per 12 pack? Where do you live? I haven't seen that price anywhere since before Covid! For the last year or so, the best deal I can remember is 3 12 packs for 13.99. This is in Queens, NY.

Someone nearly every week has pop for cheaper especially for the narrow selection found at Costco or Sam's club.

The time factor is YMMV.
if it's cheaper, it's barely cheaper, and not worth the time or gas or research/planning/mental aggrivation, unless you happen to be in a band of traveling gypsies, in which case it could be viewed as a fun lifestyle choice. Warehouse stores have good prices on other household essentials. It's more like "I don't want a 36 pack so I'll pop in at walmart or grocery store and buy a 2 liter instead". I got sam's club and their price on Fresh Step cat litter alone more than pays for the membership fee. However, if there aren't many mouths to feed in your house and you don't need to have some of these products on hand at all times, then it's fine just to pick up some smaller quantities of foodstuffs at the grocery.

Great deal, considering costco doesn't sell diet pepsi or sunkist

Great deal ? You must be new to SD. Big Lots just had 3 for $9 and some change. This is NOT a slick deal.
they don't have as good of a section as grocery stores or target for the zero versions of the drinks.

Have to keep the poors and dumbs from realizing the government is abusing them somehow.

Soda is an essential part of the USDA Food Pyramid. They recommend 10+ servings a day.

I helped pay for my Sams/Costco membership by saving ~$9 on 3 12 packs of coke at Big Lots and by saving ~$6 on 3 12 packs of Cherry Coke at Target which Costco/Sams doesn't even carry.

Big lots has less than 2 of any product available and offered no zero sugar options.

I also had a 15% off of Food and Beverages that stacked and it stacked in multiples of 3. I got six 12-packs for $22 after the 40%, 15%, and 5% off.

The walgreens deal right now is better. I picked up 3 canada dry for $12.10 after tax and bottle deposit in NY.

Jesus, people turning to SlickDeals to afford groceries? What a country.

Uh, it's the very definition of a luxury. Nobody ever needs soda. There's absolutely no benefit to soda. Buying it is the same as buying any other luxury folks buy on SD.

Either you are looking for reasons to complain or you're ignorant to the subject matter. 🤷

Holy moly, this is not a deal. $4 each was retail not too long ago, $3 each is the baseline.

Soda companies can fudge off, of all industries they raised their prices 100% during the great inflation and likely had the least impact to their own cost. Somewhere there is article explaining that Coke CEO openly said they are seeing "what the market will bear" so show them by not buying soda as much as possible. Maybe they'll rethink fleecing everyone.
