I missed on the deal from Samsung when they were $2 less ($67.49?). Many of the other recent deals on these were from random sellers on Amazon, so I didn't trust them. Amazon itself has this 4-pack on sale for $69.99 ('normal' price is $99.99). I know there's debates whether these work well vs AirTags vs Tiles, but as a Samsung household, I'll give these a chance.

A good google for "tile pro vs smarttag2" will do. But this should work for you:

https://www.androidpolice.com/sam...-tile-pro/

If you're asking about these two, I'm assuming you don't have Apple. If you have Samsung, then go with SmartTag2 (according to that article pro/con list, Smarttag2 only works with Samsung?) - if you don't then Tile Pro. While I can't find the specific Tile deal you're referring to, seems like this Samsung deal is better (4 for $70) than the 4 pack of Tile Pros from Tile (4 for $80) https://www.tile.com/product/black-pro-4-pack.

I've seen a lot of other SD users complain about Tile in these threads. I've never had one myself.

I've complained about tiles in SD. It depends completely on other people keeping the Tile app on, which not many android users do because they're given the option not to. So tracking really doesn't happen unless you have the Tile App open.

Thanks for that clarification. I could see how that (needing active participation of a network of users with open Tile apps) would be problematic - If I'm not mistaken, the Samsung SmartTag2 network is based on more passive participation - on a network of available higher end Samsung mobile devices simply being active.

This is my first foray into these tracking tags so it will be a learning experience.

Does anyone know if there are any advantages of the original SmartTag vs the SmartTag2? In another thread (https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=169776519&postcount=15), someone has mentioned that the network of Samsung Galaxy phones that can help locate the original SmartTag is larger compared to the Samsung phone network that can locate a SmartTag2. Does anyone know if this is really true? I cannot find any documentation or mention of this elsewhere and the person who made this comment in the other thread has not responded to multiple follow-up questions.

And among the list of compatible Samsung Galaxy phones that can help locate either a SmartTag or SmartTag2, it's my understanding that these phones need to have the SmartThings app installed, a user needs to be logged into their Samsung account in this app, and they need to enable the Find setting in the SmartThings app (https://support.smartthings.com/h...hings-Find). So another Samsung Galaxy user (who doesn't even use any SmartTags) needs to satisfy all these conditions in order for their phone to help locate another person's SmartTag. Is all this correct? It seems that the pool of Samsung Galaxy phones that can help locate a SmartTag is not as large as I originally thought. For example, I know people who have Samsung Galaxy phones and have never knowingly installed (not sure if the app is preinstalled) or logged into/used the SmartThings app so I don't think their phones help others locate their SmartTags.

Still alive.
They're making it harder to find now. Scroll down to New and Used (9) from $69.29 and click through. For me, the sold by and shipped by as Amazon was the 4th down on the list. Remember to buy the one that is sold and shipped by Amazon!

Battery in the Galaxy SmartTag2 lasts around 4-6 weeks, a Tile Mate we got in 2022 is still going. Tracking capability with the SmartTag2 and it's UWB (if you have a UWB-enabled phone) isn't all that better than a Tile if you lost something in public... based on personal experience

Have you tried replacement CR2032 batteries? Not sure what battery brand comes with the SmartTag2, but perhaps they are not good and a replacement Duracell/Energizer may help.

Yeah, they came out this past October'ish, so I'm on my 4th battery from at least 3 brands

Hmm, the SmartTag2 was supposed to greatly improve on the battery life compared to the original SmartTag. Have you tried enabling power saving mode on the SmartTag2 to see if that makes any difference?

That being said, I see a lot of reddit threads where others also mention short battery life on the SmartTag2.

Yeah... extended battery life will get you another week but you lose basically 90% of the features. On the bright side, if you "lose" something and you get close, you can disable extended battery to re-enable the finding features... which still aren't that great. The speaker is basically impossible to hear in public if you're more than 10ft away

I received the tags on Monday. Been using one with my child just to see if it works. We live in a less dense suburban area (directly next to more densely populated areas). After my child jumps on the bus in the morning, I'm lucky to get another ping until I pick them up in the afternoon. Apparently, no one around us (or at the school - at least anyone within 120m of the school building. I estimate that the adjacent police station/ fire station / city hall and cars driving on the road next to the school are probably over 100m away from my child during the day) has a compatible Samsung device that would ping. I'll put more in our cars to see if they are tracked properly.

Random impressions:
- They have a nice feel to them. Almost fidget toy worthy as you spin them on your finger.
- Surprised that it uses SmartThings as its native app. I was expecting it to be paired with the Wear app or have its own SmartTag app. But whatever - no big deal.
- To activate tags, there were a couple more steps to set up than I expected (not at all difficult). This is in comparison to my Samsung headphones and Watch6, which, if I remember right, I just powered them up, my phone recognized them and boom, they worked. But maybe I'm not remembering accurately.
- But, once it was set up, I like how it just works with our Samsung devices.
- I do like the 'Location History' feature.
- I do like the feature set on these and how they can be customized. I'm sure the Apple AirTags are smoother and easier to use, but I'm not a fan of iOs. If AirTags are anything like their mobile devices, I'm guessing they don't have as many customizations as SmartTag2s.

If I had to rate my 'Net Promoter Score' (NPS) with the SmartTag2s, they are like a 5 out of 10 which is a fine score for a tracking tag -- means I'll set them and hopefully forget about them until I need them - if I have battery issues like the_derek and am constantly changing out 2032s, then the score will drop. For comparison, my Galaxy Buds2 Pro earbuds started out a 7/10 and have since grown to a 9/10 and never leave my side even though I also have a pair of the Sony WF1000 XM5 earbuds that oddly just sit there next to my charging station looking beautifully sad at me while they collect dust. Overall, I like the SmartTag2 for what it is. I'll use them until (and if?) the fabled Google one ever comes out.

I'm surprised they are still available for the $69.99 price. Usually Amazon sells through these type of deals fairly quickly.

Can't recommend these at any price

I have the 2nd gen and haven't had any problems

Lucky then as the problem is pretty widespread.

I bought a 4 pack when these came out. Some work great, others constantly chirp i think due to the battery coming unseated. Not a great product but kind of works.
