Have it, the handles definitely become loose either way you have it...extended or not. Fiskars quality otherwise. In the end, if you're ok ductaping the handles in one of two positions than it is worth it.

I just picked up the 15" PowerGear Super Pruner/Lopper + Small Softgrip Bypass Pruner at Costco in store for 14.99 or 19.99 after 5 dollars off, can't remember which. Worth it at the Costco price but def not this Amazon price.

The extendable loppers do work really well. The trick is to hold them so twisting inward locks them then keep tension on the handles thru the cut. It actually helps create proper form and better leverage.
