However, 4k is going to be more limited using DisplayPort 1.2 so presumably any video cards. associated cables and displays you'd use for driving 4k would be rated for DisplayPort 1.4 or higher. Broadly 4k60 could work (depending upon other factors), but refresh rate and color space choices would be more limited when restricted to DP1.2 bandwidth.
I daily drive a monitor limited to 4k60 with a comparable cable, but anyone else specifically seeking an option for 4k might do well to stick with DP 1.4 or higher if that's supported by their device chain.
