Only improvement is the Matter certification, which you can also have on Kasa for more money. Tapo is their budget line, and it's nice that it includes Matter. But if you already have a bunch of Kasa, I recommend sticking with that. The Tapo app can control Kasa devices but not the other way around. If you already have scenes, routines, automation in the Nasa app those can't control Tapo devices, you'd have to move it all over to Tapo and control your old Kasa devices from there.

I have a ton of Kasa and a couple of Tapo switches I got on a deal. For now, I'll continue to wait for deals on Kasa and may even pay a few bucks more just because it's all set up. Either brand has worked flawlessly for me and I do appreciate the Matter ones just because I can use Siri to control them. I also got a couple of Tuo smart buttons to use on specific locations and that button requires matter to work.
These connect to your WIFI and not Zigbee/Zwave if that is important to you.
This can be (mostly) prevented by having a separate router/AP/VLAN assigned to a single 2.4GHz channel.

Yes, a lot of devices as far as i know connect to a central hub like lutron, hubitat, alexa, smarthingshub and then that hub is connected to internet. This ensures only 1 central system in going out to internet and all devies using low frequency communication like z wave provides longer battery life. Ofcoure devices like switch do not need battery but most of these can be difficult to troubleshoot when not connected to internet

Hi have Zigbee, Zwave and wifi running mostly in home assistant. Maybe it is time to try Matter and hope it is an improvement. Hopefully my screen of apps on my phone to control the different lights/plugs etc will one day be reduced into a super app using Matter

Having a ton of wifi devices congests your Wifi network as well.

The single switch also has a coupon making it $14 net if you just need one. ( dunno if the coupons are YMMV)

I've got a pair of Tplink light switches and they've been flawless for me.

Isn't one of the benefits of home assistant is consolidating everything into one control area? I still have a couple of devices that don't integrate but that is fewer than I have fingers on a hand.

I have already invested into about 50 of the TP-Link Kasa switches. How are these better?

Yes, I have phillips hue, hubitat, bluetooth dongle, zigbee dongle and multiple other wifi devices (through cloud) connected. I think I probably have some eWeLink fan modules and GE cync lights that are not connected. Zigbee motion sensors are a problem and sometimes show occupied for hours or don't show occupied. So I am looking forward to replacing everything with Matter.

Would this work with Hue and Govee lights? I have a Hue Hub v2, Amazon Echo Studio, and Govee decentralized. Not sure if they can all be controlled together or seperately somehow

You can use Alexa to bind all your devices into Alexa routines and voice commands, just import them all into your Alexa account.
