Yes it is. It's a very expensive item. You will spend even more if you get the package deal that includes the dedicated Dewalt planer table.

What if you use a shop vac with a cyclone buffer?
I don't have dust collector either but this video shows promising results by using the cyclone. (not sure if there is even shop vac connected. Seems like OP was only using a cyclone alone!

Thanks. Not sure if Rikon would be considered lower brand. I have been looking at Rikon since it had a helical style cutter though like you said DeWalt planer is a proven model.
