I've had this for over a year. The USB hub works just fine, but the Ethernet connection will randomly drop.
This is a more common problem with usb to ethernet or some other protocol adapters (e.g. wifi). The root of the problem is how windows handles the usb device controller. Not gonna endorse or bash this product, but a common fix for this is to block windows from applying automatic power savings to this device or the usb controller so windows doesn't put the device to sleep when idle. The problem usually arises when windows asks the device to wake up from idle and it just hangs up.
Just FYI, this has an F on Fakespot. Though I do see some positive reviews that seem legit, so it might still be decent.

I've tried a few 2.5g usb adapters across different brands and they all randomly disconnects. It's frustrating as hell. Tried almost every troubleshooting fixes found on Google and have yet to find a solution. It sucks!

This Ugreen has been solid so far. I had to strain-relief its cable due to disconnects from the loose retention {click) of the USB-C connector (but it could be the Z170 Asus motherboard I/O"s female end).

Best chance at (Realtek) reliability:
Get (this) one that has the RTL8156BG chip, which is Realtek's ver. 31.04 - shows up as Hardware ID that ends with "8156&REV_3104" in Windows's Device Manager Details/Hardware Ids.

Install latest driver- 10.59.20.420 (7/27/23)

Device Manager: Uncheck / disable all PowerManagement, Green, Energy-Efficient, etc. These chips remain hot power hogs- choke their power source, they may miss a few steps or not recover. Once you have stability, you can always revisit settings one at a time.

Verify USB-C (or USB-A) connection is _snug, contacts dirt/grease-free.

If your 2.5G+ switching hub is fanless or cheap, get into the chassis and add a fan or better, attach a small heatsink to the chip. Which chip? You will know by touching it when running a file xfer. Wink

FYI, jic, I tie-wrapped an NVME-type heatsink to the underside of the Ugreen, since its metal-cased. Just do a transfer to know which is the warm side.

If you haven't looked over my / booboloo's postings, here are some- the last one deals with other settings you can try, even disabling IPv6 (esp if you have the RTL8156B version- "REV_3100"):

For those on Linux, I did give a link to a nice post by Jean-Luc Aufranc, where he upgraded to the BG and had a pretty clean iperf run.
https://www.cnx-software.com/2022...in-ubuntu/

I'm repeating this link to just hit home - don't mess with the RTL8156 or the RTL8156B, get a RTL8156BG like this one. Cost isn't a factor, even misleading - the BG booboloo got on AliE is currently a tad over $10 (YMMV with those vendors showing pics of a B, but could get a BG. Others charge more for a B, it's the wild west(east) out there.

Edit: Added pic of Device Manager.

I bought a bunch of no-name USB ethernet adapters a few years ago and they were giving me worse performance than WiFi. Turns out they were dropping packets like crazy. The only one I bought that never dropped packets was an Aukey.

Anyone test these for packet loss?
Yes, on Linux. The "BG" version gave the clean iperf run (scroll to the bottom, last run):

.. and some background info and configs to try (mainly if you're stuck with the older "B" version):

Mine came in. It works well on Windows 11 and Mac OS.

Alas, I'd bought this to replace cheap 8156B adapters from Temu which worked horribly badly on MacOS six months ago-- but now those adapters work well too. Apple must have updated the MacOS drivers.

Side note, these adapters always work very well for 1000BaseT, they have better throughput and much lower CPU load than older RTL8153 based adapters. I'm using one of them right now for that alone.
