Now I just tell it to give me a notification if I leave it open for longer than 15 minutes.
I predict MyQ will get crappier every year until it becomes useless or requires a subscription for something you already have installed. Someone at the top has noticed that we've all got time and money invested in installing their product. So now they're in a great position to squeeze all the revenue out of it, without having to make any improvements. Eventually they'll squeeze it until it dies in the marketplace. They will move on to a new company, bragging about the revenue they "earned", while omitting the fact that the future value of the MyQ brand became a casualty along the way.
Might not be as easy once you get the meross app setup and something else holds you back
Nope.
Works at the end, but only if you are lucky or technically problem solving

I'm not endorsing this product, but MyQ can die in a fire.
MyQ company is garbage. Taking away features (waiting for the class action lawsuit), charging for voice assistant integration, addition of ads in their crap app.
Stay far, far away. Not just to stop supporting a company full of d'bags, but the product is junk anyways.
If you really want to support a US company that's wireless, go Wyze. Meross is great though.
One of my favorite features is the ability to set specific close times / durations. I have mine set to close at midnight if open, in case I forget. My neighbor has his set to close 10 minutes after open because when his kids would get home from school (alone) they would open the door via a keypad but would always neglect to close it.
I'm completely satisfied with them and would highly recommend.
Edit to add - you do have to run a cable from the device to the door itself in order to get the magnet into position to sense open / close. Not a big deal in my book but to each their own. I certainly wouldn't run them down the track for fear of cutting the wire during operation. I have mine tacked to the ceiling, nice and orderly. If you wanted to, you could likely route them through the attic to eliminate the wire from view.
Years ago, a cheap microcontroller called the esp8266 came out, with built in wifi. It was quickly used by tons of Chinese hardware manufacturers to make "smart" light switches, or outlets or all sorts of other stuff that was cheap and wifi. So the hardware company hosts some BS cloud site, publishes an app, and as long as they are in business, you use their app with varying degrees of spyware to control your smart device.
Tasmota came along because esp's are easy to reprogram and people who are security conscious or just want to be in control of their hardware like to hack esp's and make them more useful, with home assistant for example.
These days esp's aren't used as often, there are even cheaper, less programmable options for cheap smart devices. This isn't something you can hack with Tasmota.
All that to say, yes, Tasmota is great, and I do have an esp controlling my garage door, but it isn't something someone without previous experience just solders and programs in an afternoon, let alone hosts it securely. Modern garage doors are getting more silo'd and the simple task of opening and closing the door with your own hardware is harder than it used to be.
