Featured Comments

For everyone unaware with this comment, Amazon had a pricing error where they were giving out 5-6 free movies all of which were MoviesAnywhere compatible.

We assumed that the movies would be safe since it's in our MA account. We all woke up the next day with the rug pulled out from under us.

I and many others were under the assumption that if it hit MA, it would stay in all of the platforms even if one platform removed it.

THAT IS NOT THE CASE

Amazon fixed the pricing error and removed the license. So all of our free movies that were in our MoviesAnywhere account was gone. Poof!

Since this happened, I started looking at pirate ships to buy since any of these companies can pull their licenses without hesitation.
If you buy a MA movie anywhere it will be shared with all the other MA platforms. Amazon sells MA and non-MA films, so you do need to check which it is, but 1917 would have been shared with all the platforms whether you bought it on Amazon or Apple.

Amazon has the 4k disc version of Apollo 13 (4k blray & standard blray & digital) for $10.99 with a coupon of $1.12

I grabbed that vs just digital for $5 .

Iam one that likes having the disc and digital for all my movies !

The Amazon version at least says no MA. Also, sometimes when I see the Amazon movie it's difficult to tell whether it's MA capable. I would rather order from MA or Apple (my primary means of watching movies anyways) over Amazon. I ordered one movie from Amazon without realizing that it was Amazon exclusive. That sucks.

EDIT: I guess the chart above now says MA capable for 1917.

To ensure that the movie is MA, you can login to your MA account in desktop (this doesn't work in the mobile app). Search for the movie and if you don't have the movie on your account, it will show the pricing for each of the retailers that you have connected to your account. You can buy it from there and you'll be directed to the specific retailer website for purchase.

No love for FMJ? "It's a hardball world, son. We've just got to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over."
I love Stanley Kubrick - though his movies are hard to watch/stomach - great but tough to watch. Clockwork Orange anyone?

Wasn't one take, Russian Ark was one take.

It was shot to appear to be one take.

I know, so doesn't that mean that the whole movie is basically just going on a short walk?
I know stuff happens on the walk but really they just walked a mile or two.

Vudu has about 9-10 of the sci-fi titles from this list in their weekly "$5 deals" offer. I counted 9 4K films like Moon, Close Encounters, Starship Troopers, Gattaca, etc. Good for those that don't have amazon dig. credits but do have 20% discounted Vudu GCs.

Well, I can't say I walked on the front of a peer to peer war, but I did go on patrol with an ODA in Africa and let me tell you, those patrols weren't easy the first night on patrol they told us we were probably going to get hit. The fear kept me up all night, even NODs didn't put my mind at ease.

Lot of risk going on a walk at the front.

I guess we can agree to disagree, I found it quite a good movie about the Great War.

If you buy from Store A, Store A tells Store B and C that you own a license to view it. Because of the MA agreement, that allows you to view it from Store B and C so you don't need to buy it again. When the license from Store A is gone, they tell Store B and C that you no longer own a license to view it.

It makes no sense to allow a perpetual license on other MA-associated sites after the original license is revoked because it opens it up for refund scams. I don't see how anyone could have come to the conclusion that you would gain a perpetual license to a movie even after the original license is removed considering how MA works.

The refund scams are easy to solve. They can still implement Store A was refunded so revoke from Store B and Store C.

This is exactly my point. We "bought" these at $0.00. We own that license. They are technically ours regardless of their error. They should not have the ability to revoke a license that we technically "own".

If you put this scenario in the real-world, and there were blu-rays priced at $.01 instead of $10, a lot of stores would honor the price because that's what was in the system. They're not going to take away your item because they messed up.

In your stated case, you paid nothing and gained nothing. You were refunded exactly what you paid when your license was refunded, which was $0. You no longer own the license at that point when you were refunded and you lost access to it across all MA platforms.

You even pointed out that there was a possibility that it would be removed from your library so it's not like this was something that came out of the blue. You took a chance at a price error for free things and it didn't work out.
