Purpose of these exactly
first, they filter out blue light so everything seems brighter. It also makes things more defined.

They have a slight magnification so everything looks bigger. This is a reason some of my friends wear them even for pharmacy work where you read a lot of small text.

Of course, you wouldn't wear them if color accuracy is important (like if you're editing photos). They're designed for computer work/gaming (where you're near the screen). I think they do have a line for console gamers (where the TV is far away).

I have a couple models and they're nice. I don't go out of my way to grab them before using the computer but if they're in front of me, I do put them on.

I have these. I like them.

Every time one of these Gunnar deals gets posted, there's always the same back and forth. Most of the detractors seem to be people who haven't tried them, and most of the proponents seem to be people who have. Draw your own conclusions there.

Has the blue light thing been overhyped? Maybe. But regardless of how the science is sliced, many people subjectively enjoy the relief from these sorts of glasses. They are definitely not snake oil.

Yeah, apps can change the color temp of your screen, and I like that option too. For long periods of staring at a screen in the evening (coding), I prefer the glasses (or a combo of glasses + app). For one thing, the glasses also help with the ambient light, ie. from the fluorescent lights in my office - that can make a big difference. (If I worked in a Walmart, I'd want these on after sunset, sans magnification... that light is harsh!) For coding, the slight magnification from my Gunnars is nice too.

I can't use them any more because I need prescription glasses now, so I use software color adjustment instead, but I miss the glasses for evening coding.

If you need prescription glasses, you can order cheap pairs from Goggles4u with a yellow tint that helps with the blue light blocking.

I wonder how Gunnar is still in business? I've never seen or heard of anyone using them.

there are always studies that indicate the opposite. lots of factors.... but definitely yea, it's not 'proven' because we research boner pills instead of stuff like this so more data is needed. I think if you feel it helps, great. If not, well, better than wasting money trying it on a $200 pair. My wife bought them for kids before to use with tablets... then limited their tablet time to 15 min a day...

if you have a family eye insurance plan and don't need new glasses or wear them at all, you can probably just get a guicci pair for free plus a fee that's the same as this price. mine paid for $250 a year that I could use on sunglasses or blue light if I didn't use them on normal glasses.

Asking for a friend. Is boner pills research not useful at all?

I use their reading glasses almost daily. Also use the 1.5 reading glasses version for my laptop with Autocad which seems to help with the reddish colors to show better on my screen, and then I don't need to change the display settings when I go back to using Outlook and such. Love them. Migraines reduced significantly.
I'll pick up a pair of these gaming glasses now for using with Xbox, I just wish they had a bit more magnification level so the tiny text for reading certain things were larger.

OoS now, but got a pair of the metal frame 'MW' glasses. They're much higher build quality than my last two pairs of Gunnars.

Not a cawadooty fan, so if asked about the MW emblem, I'll just tell them I'm a fan of BattleTech, MechWarrior specifically.
(The OG "MW" in the gaming world)

Edit: Just grabbed a backup pair of the wraparounds. At <$20 a pair, these feel "priced right".

If only there was a setting on your monitor to filter out blue light.

Actually, these are not just blue blocking. The technology is designed to help pull all the dots that make letters and images easier for the eyes to assemble.

EyeDictive has been a reliable source for me. Several purchases from them and all came in fast and well packaged. Absolutely no problem and I'd have no hesitation ordering from them again.
As to Gunnar, they are very helpful for me. The standard lenses (not readers) make my computer, and hi-rez tvs all pop and look more defined. Last year I had cataract surgery and one eye ended up needing a little bit more help for reading so I got some +1.0 readers and my goodness what a difference that makes. Words jump out from the screen and the background is muted just perfectly for me. Personally I prefer the amber tint, but the clear readers work great for books and other printer material.
For me, the glasses are far superior to using the built in blue blocking setting on Win11.

You shouldn't care about studies to tell us what to do and what not. If you feel less strain on your eyes while wearing, it is for you!! if you don't it's not for you. As simple as that.
